MOVIE PREVIEW: HOUSE OF GUCCI

As we all venture back to the theater, we are welcomed by a diverse number of movies that keep us entertained and glued to our seats. The House of Gucci does just that with a star-studded class including Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Jarett Leto, Jeremy Irons, Selma Hyack, Adam Driver, and Tom Ford.

Set in the mid-1980s and based on the book, Sara Gay Bordon, the film is centered around the character played by Lady Gaga. Gaga portrays Patrizia Reggiani, a Liz Taylor look-a-like who desires to marry into a rich family.

She does just that when she meets and begins to court Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver. The two begin the journey of redefining the family of Gucci by working to rid the elders of their birthright. The film is largely entertaining but does struggle to keep its audience interested.

You would think with all the star power that the movie would be more entertaining, but I found myself somewhat bored with the English-speaking Italian accents and the time it took to actually get anything going.

Another problem that irritated me is watching mega-rich people have problems. The infighting between family members seemed a little petty and therefore the story never truly got to a climax. They all stayed rich, and they all still lived eccentric lifestyles.

The movie, based on a real story, did offer a glimpse into the world of fashion and crime and helped explain how Gucci become what it is today. With no living family members running the company, the film ends the way it began; watching rich people have problems is irritating.
