NOTHING BUT AMAZING MIND GAMES

Every so often comes a movie comes along that ends with more questions than answers. You walk out of the theater and get into your car and wonder, “What did I just watch”? When this happens, you only have one choice: to see it again. That is what Verity has done for its audience.

Verity is a psychological thriller film adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel that opens in theaters on October 2, 2026.

Struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh accepts a life-changing job offer from Jeremy Crawford to finish the remaining books in a successful series penned by Jeremy’s famous wife, Verity Crawford. Verity is left incapacitated and in a vegetative state following a severe accident. While moving to the remote Crawford estate to sort through Verity’s notes,

Lowen discovers a hidden, chilling autobiographical manuscript detailing dark family secrets and twisted confessions. Lowen grows close to Jeremy while struggling to separate reality from manipulation and obsession.

The cast is amazing. Lowen, played by Dakota Johnson; Verity, played by Anne Hathaway; and Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett, all shine as they step out of their typical roles to surprise the audience with incredible range and the ability to deceive us at the same time.

The plot’s twists and turns remind you of a time when movies were made well. The movie is filmed well, as you lose yourself in the home of Verity and Jeremy. The grandness of the scenes allows you to become a part of mind games.

And what is so amazing about the film is you literally will begin to change who is the villain and who is the hero in real time. Who can you trust? Who should you trust? What in the heck is going on? Is this a thriller? Why am I scared? I cannot believe she could do that.

These are the questions that you will have as you forget about gas being $4.50. To be able to escape and enjoy something so salacious, you begin to want to help prove or disprove what you are watching.

If you have read the book, you will enjoy the movie. If you have not read the book, you will really enjoy the movie because you will not understand what is around the corner. You if you like to be scared, confused, and emotional all at the same time, then Verity is the movie for you.

There is only one negative aspect about watching a movie like this. You might have to go see it twice so you can begin to see all the hidden indicators of what was really happening. So understand that while you drive home, you will have more questions and answers. You will attempt to rewind scenes in your head as you are confused by the ending.

My rating for this movie is 4 stars out of 5, only because I know when I see it again the score will increase to a 4.5 out of five as I learn more about who to trust and who not to trust. What a great way to spend an hour and a half.
