By now, everyone understands what to expect from DC and MCU films. An attempt by the writers to create a storyline built around the characters with some super stuff thrown in for fun. For DC, this attempt fails time after time. For the MCU, however, the effort seems to be more genuine and entertaining. This movie keeps that tradition alive.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day starts with Peter Parker (Tom Holland), who devotes his life to protecting New York City as a full-time Spider-Man. But as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crime gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he’s ever faced.
Along with Spider-Man, there are several surprises from other characters that add to the fun of the film. No spoiler alert here. This article will not spill the beans on who is in the film. The best part about seeing the other superheroes is that their storylines are well thought out, and the movie moves with purpose and intention.
The other aspect of Spiderman: Brand New Day is that the film does an excellent job of combining all of the characters. So often, filmmakers force characters together for the sake of adding more people in the film, and quite often it makes no sense.
This film does a pretty good job of creating a meaningful storyline together with excellent special effects where you lose the urge to judge the film while you are sitting in the theater. You get to just sit back and enjoy escaping into the world of modern New York City and all the wonderful things that this film offers.
Missing from this film is the wokeness that we come to expect from movies in 2026. The characters are not based on some need for every race and sexual orientation to be represented. The people are who you expect them to be. No one is making stupid jokes or acting in a manner that is ridiculous.
The film is simply allowed to be what all films are supposed to be: entertaining and as realistic as possible. Now I understand that superheroes are not real. But if they were, this is exactly what I would want them to be.
Oh, and half of the world did not explode like in most of these films. There were no giant creatures the size of a building walking around. The ocean did not swallow the city and destroy it.
And last but not least, the fighting sequences were believable and so good that it makes you want to see the film again. OK, OK, maybe there is one more thing. The message of the film was amazing and drives home a very important point that no one should have to grow through life alone.
I give Spiderman: Brand New Day a 4.5 out of 5 stars!
